Cora Cox Academy Hosted Open House and Renaming Ceremony

Kingsport City Schools hosted an open house and renaming ceremony for Cora Cox Academy on Friday, August 10, 2012.

Formerly New Horizons Alternative School, Cora Cox Academy houses the KCS alternative education program for students in grades 6-12. The school was renamed in honor of Cora Cox, a longtime Kingsport City Schools teacher and education leader.

During her tenure, Cox was frequently recognized for her academic excellence and positive impact on children. She was twice selected as Kingsport Teacher of the Year, named the 1977 Tennessee Teacher of the Year, and was a finalist for National Teacher of the Year. Cox taught a Douglass School, Sevier Middle School, Robinson Middle School and Johnson Elementary.
